THERE’S “STILL LIFE” IN HIM YET

5 - 19 NOVEMBER 2022

It was something of a surprise to see that the paintings were dealing more and more with what might be loosely described as “Still Life” – although looking back – this could have been foreseen, as the direction – if not entrenched - was already well and truly present in the “Coloured Mud” exhibition from 2019.

These works develop from a playful, abstract layering of gouache – and as they start to take shape, ideas emerge as to the possible subject matter and how it might relate to, or connect with the accumulation of paint.

There are persistent themes – evolving from everyday interactions and activities, leading in turn to considerations of subject matter and composition, but colour and more specifically, colour relationships form the foundation stones on which these paintings are built.
